This Celtic amulet with three hounds chasing each other is based on the medieval motif of the “Wild Hunt”. The illustration that served as the model for this Celtic pendant with the wild hunt can be found in the Book of Kells, an Irish manuscript from the early Middle Ages. The illustration shows the Cŵn Annwn, the Celtic hounds of Arawn, the Lord of the Underworld.

The three hounds are chasing each other and their bodies form a triad, an ancient Celtic symbol of the trifold, which in Celtic culture symbolizes life, death and rebirth and thus the eternal cycle of nature. As the dog was of great importance to the Celts and, like the Cŵn Annwn, was interwoven with the world of legends, depictions of dogs found a strong artistic expression in the Celtic culture of the Middle Ages

The dog was a protective and guard animal, as well as a hunting companion, and in the Celtic legendary world, dogs were also sometimes the companions of gods and heroes and possessed a magical connection to the Otherworld. In particular, such depictions were found in the elaborately designed.

A 1 m leather cord is supplied with the pendant.
