Sail daggers are daggers with a guard in the shape of a sail. They appear in the middle of the 17th century, with the rise of fencing with a rapier and dagger as the most popular fighting method for civilians in Europe. The wide crossguard and long blade make it easier to parry both slashes and thrusts, and the 'sail' guard served as an excellent deflecting shield that covers the entire off-hand, making the sail dagger a perfect main-gauche dagger. If you've ever wanted to hold a dagger and a buckler in the same hand, a sail dagger is a great choice.

This particular sail dagger has been proudly assembled by an Australian smith using components from MFC. Every element of this dagger, from the stitching to the assembly, was completed by hand by a skilled craftsperson. It is a truly unique piece, made with attention to detail and a high level of craftsmanship. It is ideal for collectors or re-enactors looking for a unique dagger to wear or display.
