The Montefortino helmet is so called after its first excavation in Montefortino, Italy. It refers to a whole class of helmets, some in bronze or iron, and some with or without cheek flaps and distinguishing features.

This Montefortino helmet is of Celtic Gaul origin, who after invading Italy and sacking Rome around 390 left their mark on the Roman military culture and manufacturing style. By the time of the Punic Wars in 200, the Montefortino helmet had become almost standard equipment for Roman soldiers of the Republic.

This Montefortino helmet is made of steel, in replication of the wrought iron Celtic style as opposed to the bronze Etruscan styles. It features cheek flaps embossed with three concentric circles; a pattern common to many variants. The cheekflaps also possess hooks to which a leather tie would secure the flaps beneath the chin. This helmet comes with an arming cap.
