Kind of a gamble buying a sword part from Australia but the exchange rate was good so risk/reward made sense. I'm glad I made the purchase. The crossguard arrived in good condition and my only complaint about shipping is that a signature was required which necessitated a post-office pickup.

All that tangential matter aside - that crossguard is hefty and held in the hand feels like it would make a serviceable weapon as-is. I bought it for re-hilting a Hanwei Rhinelander ring-hilt sword I bought from a friend for fifty-bucks. I use it for pell-work in lieu of a feder. The hilt's loose on the Hanwei (it was like that when I got it) and I hate that stupid ring on the crossguard. The Hanwei hilt's pommel feels hollow and looks like the decorative end on the paper-towel holder in my kitchen. So I've gone ahead an ordered a 'scent-stopper' pommel from Medieval Fight Club to, along with the guard, add some weight and improve the sword's handling. I may make a mess out of the grip when I get to that, but it'll have soul.
