Replica of an early medieval dress fastener from a grave find from the 6th century Anglo-Saxon settlement of Eriswell in Suffolk.
Such robe hooks made of spirally coiled wire were common among the Anglo-Saxons during the early Middle Ages and were used instead of buttons to close the sleeve openings of women's robes.
Robe hooks are easily attached with a few stitches through the openings of the spiral coils.
