Ever since the First Barbary War, way back in 1805 the Mamluke Sword has been a symbol of pride for U.S. Marine Officers. As their history states, a Mamluke sword was gifted to to First Lieutenant Presley O'Bannon by the Ottoman Empire, as a show of gratitude and respect for the part the Marines played in the Libyan war. (The mamluke sword being a style of sword used by the warriors of Mamluk Egypt, once a part of the Ottoman Empire.)

This was solidified as tradition in 1825 when Marine Corps Commandant Archibald Henderson adopted the sabre as Marine Officer wear. Mamluke swords have remained the standard wear to this day.

This particular Mamluke Sabre would be worthy of a Marine Captain. The blade is adorned with a decorative patterning, and the grip and bowl guard are shiny painted metal featuring a cast pattern. The hilt has a yellow tassel attached with wooden bobble. The scabbard is a sleek black faux leather with metal locket and chape.
