A sun cross, solar cross, or wheel cross is a solar symbol consisting of an equilateral cross inside a circle. It is a ubiquitous design in the symbolism of prehistoric Indo-European cultures, such as those from the Neolithic to Bronze Age periods. The symbols prevalence and supposed import in prehistoric religion has promoted the theory that it is a representation of the sun, hence its name 'sun cross' from the German Sonnenkreuz. It is also interesting to note the similarities between the sun cross and a wheel, such as those on the chariot of Helios, the Greek god of the Sun. Another fun note is that the sun cross symbol means 'village' in Ancient Egyptian.
This brooch is detailed in a more intricate pattern than its Bronze age predecessors. It features dots, swirls and symbols fine imprints to add to its decorative nature. It also features a modern brooch pin for ease of attachment to your lapels, bags or other clothing.
