A remarkable replica of a blade found in the Sarsky Fort excavation in 1874, from barrow 15. It was found stuck into the ground next to an urn containing the ashes of its presumed owner.

This sword is dated to the 9thC and 10thC, and shows the +ULFBERH+T inscription on one blade, and a series of straight lines and symbols called volutes on the reverse. This sword is also distinctive in the decoration of the hilt and crossguard: brass pieces dotted with sequential pits to form a grille-like pattern.

This reconstruction features a high carbon steel blade with unsharpened edges. The crossguard and pommel are brass, and the handle is wood with tight leather wrap. The scabbard is also wooden with leather wrap, and features a brass chape, hook, and finishings.

Deepeeka claim this weapon is battle ready, but we are yet to fully test it here at Medieval Fight Club. We recommend further rounding of both the tip and the edges before use in reenactment.
