The nasal helmet had its origins in Western Europe and was used from the late 9th century to at least the middle of the 13th century. The nasal helmet was characterised by the nose-guard, or 'nasal'. It was composed of a single strip of metal that extended down from the skull or brow-band over the nose to provide facial protection.
This functional replica features an ornate ridge/brow piece, steel bands across the dome, adjustable internal leather webbing and a chinstrap with period buckle.
It is made from 16 gauge metal.
