The Kettle Helmet was mainly used as infantry armour in Late Medieval Europe. It takes its name because of the resemblance to a contemporary cooking pot. The wide brim provided good protection against strikes from above, such as from cavalry swords, and was very useful in siege warfare as the wide brim would protect the wearer from projectiles shot or dropped from up on high.

This particular Kettle Hat is based off of a real find from 15thC Flanders and Burgundy. Its spiral shape and curves are hallmarks of the artistry and skill involved in late medieval armour crafting. The curved shapes of armour from this time assist in the deflection of strikes away from the armour, protecting the wearer even more than simple steel plate would.

This helm comes with adjustable leather webbing and sturdy chinstrap with a period appropriate buckle. The helmet is 16ga steel.
