A distinctive pommel that was a popular design from the late 10th to the late 11thC, making it an ideal option for a Migration Period, Viking or Early Medieval sword construction. This particular example is somewhere between the distinctly English 'lobed' pommel and the German 'cocked hat' pommel. It would probably be safe to call it Anglo-Saxon, then wouldn't it?
