A perfect cast brass chape for belts, shoes, pouches, armour etc. Has a slot with premade rivet holes for secure method to attach leather. This type of buckle containing a box shaped chape can be seen in some monumental brasses, suggesting a extended use withing the knightly classes. The use for this kind of ornament is increased during the 15th C, moment in which we can see many highly decorated survivors pieces. The IHC monogram is used because it represents the name of Jesus Christ (Iesus Christos) being more common after the merovingian era than the IHS monogram. This set is completed with a matching chape for the end of the belt. Perfect for 1350 to 1500.
