The Karambit is a unique curved knife originating from Indonesia. Originally used as an agricultural tool (like many weapons of war are), the karambit was designed to thresh and rake roots. However, it was believed to be weaponised first by the people of West Sumatra, who then dispersed this idea among the rest of the subcontinent, with the idea being that the blade resembles a claw, like that of a tiger. Historically, Indonesian warriors only considered the karambit a weapon as a last resort due to its ties to the lower class of farmers. However, nowadays the karambit is a staple weapon in Filipino martial arts and silat, and seems to be very popular in the West in a superficial sense.
